Five on Friday [LATE Night Edition!]

Well hello, lovelies! Here I sit with a glass of vino, trying to squeeze in the Five on Friday that got away from me today. Raise your Friday night cocktail (for those of you who are still awake) and read along to see what things I'm loving this week! Here we go!

1. New Stepping Stools

Now that we have these beautiful new closets, I quickly realized I was way too short to reach the top clothing bars. I didn't want a plastic stepping stool to clash with the dark wood in the closets, so I scoured the internet and found these beauties. They came fully assembled and are compact and the perfect size! I purchased two--one for our closet and one for the nursery closet.

2. Baskets

I wanted to get some baskets for the cubby holes in the nursery closet. When I open the closets, I wanted a way to store the random things (stuffed animals and toys, for example), to create function and have it be done in a way that left the closet still looking organized. I was going to go around to some of my usual basket stores--World Market, Target, etc.--but found these at Babies R Us. They are made by Koala Baby and look absolutely perfect in the nursery closet!

3. Sinful Pairing

People say they get some of their best ideas when working out. Well, this is a good/bad idea (more like a random craving) that I came up with while working out the other day:
A piece of chocolate cake. A teaspoon of hot chocolate syrup poured over the chocolate cake. Top with a handful of raspberries. Take a bite of chocolate raspberry concoction. Now take a sip of the pinot noir. Yumm.

I justified the pairing because I had only a very small portion. (Like a quarter of a small slice of cake.) It was SINFULLY delicious!

4. Nipple brush

As one of our baby shower gifts, we received a wonderful bottle brush to help quickly clean out the several bottles we'd be going through with a newborn.(This was of course a gift from a new mom!) I absolutely love the brush and as I was cleaning bottle after bottle, nipple after nipple, true to my OCD nature I thought, "there has to be some device to more effectively reach up into these nipples". Sure enough, they sell these little buggers for people like me that have to get these things cleaned out perfectly. I love, love, love this thing!

5. March 1

Now, I know that March 1st in Michigan (particularly THIS year) does not mean it's going to be warm right away. In fact, I think we're in for a whopping 28 degrees tomorrow, which sadly, is an improvement. However, I am still excited because we are officially out of the winter months come March 1st. It's the first "spring month". So, even though it will still be frickin' cold for a bit of time to come, we are ON OUR WAY to warmer weather!!

Have a wonderful weekend!!

Cheers,
Samara

Two Months Old

Our little buddy reached his two month mark last week!

Jackson Nazir Morgan

Two months old on 2-18-14

Milestones and Memories

1. New Discoveries

Jackson has discovered his fists, his grip and his feet. My favorite discovery has been his smile. (And not just a gas smile!) The first thing that made him smile was lip kisses from his mom. During month two, he smiled at his mom singing opera music, blowing on his face, having a chunk of hair run across the border of his face, and giving him little cheek zerberts.

Jackson has also discovered his voice. With each passing day, he coos more and more and the sounds are varied. We make sure to hold several conversations with him regularly and to repeat his noises back to him. He really enjoys that!

He has also discovered a full night's sleep! My little angel started sleeping through the night at the beginning of week 7 and my husband and I could not be happier about it!

2. First Valentine's Day

I found this adorable onesie at Target and just had to pick it up! I tried to do the "kiss face" picture that everyone with a newborn is doing (thanks to Pinterest, I'm sure!), but when the kiss marks didn't turn out as well as I would have liked them to, I decided it wasn't meant to be. I like this picture better, anyway.  ;-)

Jackson spent SEVERAL hours making Valentine cards for family households. He delivered them to everyone, along with chocolates. Everyone remarked about his crafting talents.

3. Moving On To Bigger Things

I can't believe that I felt any amount of sadness packing these little newborn clothes away  (the newborn stage is not for everyone, especially when you are a new parent and don't know what you're doing and are still adjusting), but it was the first stage of his life gone and I did feel a little weepy packing away these teeny, tiny clothes.

4. First Random Thing At Home That Jackson Really Likes

It's not really a surprise that he absolutely loves the Gustav Klimt print of "The Kiss" that is hanging in our home (lots of colors and shapes there), but it's really fun that he has reached the stage where it is visibly evident that he is totally enthralled with the print. Also, it makes you laugh at all the planning you do for a baby to aid their development when you totally forget that you have things they love in your house already!

5. First Visit to Mom's Job

Although the weather wasn't really any better out, we had to leave the house that day for an appointment anyway, so I decided to take Jackson into the company I work for briefly. (I had to drop off some paperwork there, anyway.) I told him that just because it was Friday--dress down day--didn't mean we couldn't keep it business-like. He wore this adorable shirt and tie combo along with some jeans and tennis shoes.

 6. Two Month Checkup and Vaccinations

My little tiger had everything checked out and received his vaccinations. He loves his doctor (she calls him a "sparkly guy"), but did not love the vaccinations. Poor guy cried like crazy for a minute or two before falling asleep. I felt quite resourceful as I pulled out my iPhone and quickly turned on the Sound Sleeper app and set it to "rain".

7. First Sunday at Church

Grandma No-No (my mom) had just returned from Mexico, so she snatched Jackson from us as she walked into church. He fell asleep and was resultantly quite the little gentleman.

These are just a few of the many wonderful things that have happened in month two of Jackson's life. I am looking forward to all the discoveries and firsts in MONTH THREE!
