One Month Old

Our little guy reached his one month mark this past Saturday. I won't bore you with sleeping and eating habit updates (I'll save that for the baby book) except to say he is a chowhound and sleeps at all the wrong times. Pictures are way more fun to look at, anyway. With that said, here are a few things that happened in his first month of life.

Milestones and Memories
1.Being Born

Lots of babies being born right around Jackson's to-be birthday. As a result, I was in triage for four hours.
Finally made it to Labor & Delivery
Born 12-18-13 at 1:16 a.m.
From L to R: Audrey, Ava and Amelia meet their cousin, Jackson
Nothing better exists than a great grandma!
2. Going Home
Getting ready to walk inside home with our third family member (OK, the fourth. Our cat Baby is the third!)
3. First Sunday Family Coffee

First Sunday family coffee at GG's

4. First Christmas.

My family's Christmas goes on for days. Literally. We have three days (this year it was extended to FIVE) of nonstop house hopping to make cookies, open presents, eat food, visit, drink coffee, drink spirits, eat food, open presents, drink coffee. You get the idea. As a result, I have way too many photos, but here are just a few.

At my brother's house to help make cookies for Santa
First "Christmas Story" marathon. His Uncle Adam would be proud!
At my aunt's house to open presents. Jackson is wearing one of many Christmas outfits his Grandma Jody bought him.

5. First New Year's Eve
NYE this year was rather uneventful for all of us. With Jackson being hours away from being just two weeks old, we stayed home and ate chocolate cake and sipped a little champagne after putting him to sleep.

But not before we snapped this picture of his tootsies by the tree.

6. First Out of Town Trip

We took Jackson to Grand Rapids on January 4th to meet his Great Grandma Shirley, Grandma Kim, Grandpa Dan, Great Aunt Kathy (all Thomas' side of the family) and my godmother.

7. First Family Pictures

Technically, this was the third family photo shoot if you count maternity photos and a picture we had taken of our hands together in the hospital. This is the photo shoot that almost didn't happen. Since Thomas was doing the driving out of town for us, I pulled night duty alone. Oy vey. Jackson was still sleeping in our room at this point and I was so beyond tired the next day. I'm glad we stuck to the plan and had the pictures taken.

Do you notice Pakistan is showing on the globe? Great idea from the photographer!
Dad's eye color still (so far), but mom's eye shape

8. First Bath

Jackson's umbilical cord fell off pretty early on, so we were able to give him a real bath. He hated it, but by the second bath and slightly warmer bath water, he tolerated the bath much better. By his one month mark, he loved baths.

All bundled up after a bath (not the first bath)

9. First Soccer Game

OK, it was just a game on the tv at home, but it was ARSENAL--Jackson's dad's favorite European soccer team. Jackson was mostly uninterested and preferred to look outside, but doesn't he look cute decked out in his team gear?

10. First Goofy Picture Taken by Mom and Dad

I was laughing so hard I could barely take the picture. Thomas and I knew we were both being naughty by taking this picture while he was trying to sleep.

Doesn't he look scholarly? ;-)

Cheers,
Samara

  1. Haha too cute! Lots of great pics of "firsts", and lots of great memories :)
You look fantastic, too, for having just given birth!
You're right he does look a LOT more like Thomas in his younger pics, but also is changing with the passing weeks. In that pic on FB he looks more like you :) I'm sure he'll have a nice blend of both of you :)
I love the 1st Christmas Story pic too - too funny!

    1. It was a challenging entry to compose because I had too many picture choices to wade through! :)

Thank you for the sweet compliment!!

We looooove "Christmas Story" in this family. Thomas is slowly getting used to our unofficial tradition. I couldn't believe he thought our channel should be on anything else (ALL day) than the CS, haha!

  2. Thanks Samara! He is perfect!!
I do believe you just 'carried' Jackson for Thomas, otherwise I'd say he's not yours... :-) We call that a "Spit-Baby".
