Love Day Messages

I can't quite remember when I first learned of the new trend taking place on the Pont des Arts bridge in Paris, but I remember thinking it was not only hopelessly romantic, but also a bit artistic.

For those of you who have been living under a rock (or who don't watch trashy, slightly mind-rotting tv shows on E! and Bravo where Kourtney Kardashian, Kyle Richards and others have traveled to Paris and participated in the trend) a trend has popped up in recent years where couples write a love message on a padlock, attach it to the chain-link fence on the bridge, lock it,and throw away the key into the Seine River below as a symbol of their undying love for one another.

Since my hometown has no bridge dedicated to lovers professing their devotion for one another, one of our local newspapers decided to get in on the action in their own way.
For a price, readers could have a "padlock" containing the message of their choice put onto a "bridge"--a drawing on the front page of the newspaper--for all the world (OK, for all of City Pulse's readers, anyway) to view.

This is what the cover looks like:

As Thomas and I have recently sprung for closet makeovers, we swiftly decided that was more than enough of a present to each other for Valentine's Day. (Nothing says "I love you" like taking a closet space you have to share and having it beautifully organized by professionals!) However, this was such a cool idea and effort by our local paper that I couldn't help but have a padlock for my fella put onto the bridge.

The best part of a romantic gesture like this is I have a guy who truly appreciates it. I knew his heart would leap the moment he saw it and it did. He immediately sent me a text containing what must have been a bajillion heart emoticons and exclamation points. Unfortunately, he accidentally also took my phone with him to work.

Had to infuse just a little real-world in there. ;-)

Happy Valentine's Day Eve, darlings.

Cheers,
Samara
